Those of you, who are already familiar with coupons, may be aware of the fine-prints. Merchants specify these conditions. So, before using any coupon, you need to examine those fine-prints for validity.
1. Order Size – A coupon may be valid subject to a minimum/ maximum order size. The code will work only if your order size falls within this range.
3. Category coupon – These codes are valid for a specific product line, like, a code valid on HDTV orders will not work on purchase of jewelries.
4. Valid for Brands – These codes are valid for a specific brand.
5. Product specific – These coupons are valid only for a specific product. Retailers are likely to specify the product, discount amount, and an expiry date.
6. Staring date – Codes may have a specific starting date and time. So, it will not work before that date.
7. Expiry date – Promotion codes are time-sensitive and valid only for a limited time. Once, that date is over, coupon code will not work anymore.
8. Case sensitivity – Codes are a combination of alphanumeric characters, and may be case sensitive. So, while typing your code, make sure to use the proper case.
9. Only for new customers – Lots of online retailers release these coupons to get new customers. If you are an existing customer, these codes won't work.
11. Look-a-like characters – ‘0’ (ZERO) and ‘O’ (Alphabet); or, ‘1’ (one) and ‘l’ (Alphabet L) look almost similar. So, while typing a coupon, you need to take a close look at what is exactly written. The best practice is to copy the code and paste it in the promo field.
12. Redemption Limit – Codes may be subject to a maximum redemption limit. Once that limit is crossed, those codes will not work anymore.
In fine it is to be said that shoppers need to examine each coupon based on the factors mentioned above, fortunately there are few good coupon websites which take care of all these fine-prints. So, saving money with online coupon may not be that much difficult once you know the websites to look for your code.
